Tearing Up The Slopes

Alita had a less than enjoyable experience at ski school up in Whistler this year. I think she was cold and frustrated, and not happy about spending all day with strangers. She would have rather have been building elaborate castles and barns out of blocks for her myriad little plastic animals, inside a warm room where her feet wouldn't unexpectedly fly out from under her. So we've made a few trips up to Snoqualmie, the local ski hill about 45 minutes outside of Seattle, so we can all play in the snow together. Our hope is that she'll realize skiing is actually fun, and it seems to have worked- she took her first ride on the chairlift last weekend, and had such a good time tearing up the green circle slope that she didn't want to leave. The hot chocolate, chicken fingers and french fries had nothing to do with it, I'm sure. Meanwhile, Mira is happy digging holes, building snowmen, rolling around in and eating the snow when she thinks I'm not looking.

Happy New Year!

Last year, a friend of mine did a series of interviews with all her family members. The results were hilarious, and I am shamelessly stealing her shtick. Herein, the Van Morrison family quiz:

What’s the biggest problem facing the world today?
Mira: sharks
Alita: caimans coming out of the jungle
Erik: people trying to make other people believe the way they do. Alita chimes in: "Like how I want you to believe there were alive cars, but you believe there were giant sloths and that’s just boring." Creationists got nothin' on Disney-Pixar.
Amy: climate change

What are you going to do to make the world a better place?
Mira: throw magic mud and magic potions around to make people stop doing bad things
Alita: make sure there are enough unicorns in the world who come alive when dipped in water, because Magic is really good for the world.
Erik: not argue with people’s beliefs. Unless they’re wrong, idiots.
Amy: keep you guys believing in magic as long as possible (awww)

What's your favorite food?
Mira: Kiwi and vadaco (avocado)
Alita: crab with hot melted butter.
Erik: bacon.
Amy: all of the above. Right now.

Favorite thing that happened over the last year:
Mira: I dunno.
Alita: all the money I got (???).
Erik: Bacon.
Amy: Making a catch on the flying trapeze.

What's your favorite thing to wear?
Alita: zebra outfit (anything black and white is a zebra outfit).
Mira: nothing. Lightning McQueen underwear a close second.
Erik: Jammies.
Amy: anything fleece. Or Givenchy, I can't decide.

If you had a million dollars, what would you do with it?
Mira: Buy lots of things. Toys!
Alita: Buy a human slinky suit (http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=a3b_1351035392)
Erik: Buy a new house
Amy: Lock down the college funds and drink some really good bourbon. In Costa Rica.

What's the best book you've read recently?
Mira: Dick and Jane and Vampires. Actually, that's a little scary. Maybe Babar.
Alita: The Gift of Nothing
Erik: Freakonomics
Amy: The Jane Eyre Affaire
